To help us with our technical experiment assignment, Hans held a training session on how to sketch for prototyping.

First, we took an image of a bottle and sketched different iterations of it.

First, we had one minute to draw an initial sketch of the water bottle.

Then we sketched 3 different sizes of the bottle, 4 sketches of the bottle with added handles, 3 different profile sketches, a sketch of the lid of one of the profile sketches and finally showcasing how a mobile app connected to the bottle will work to notify the user if the bottle is dirty, empty, etc...

We then did a similar activity with a lamp.

We drew the initial sketch, 3 sketches with a lampshade, 3 sketches with a different base, 3 sketches to show different ways to be able to adjust the lamp, a sketch with a combination of all our favourite designs, and finally 3 sketches to show the lamp in different scales (desk lamp, dining-room lamp, street lamp).

For both the activities, we only had one minute for each set of sketches which proved to be quite difficult. However, thanks to the time limit I think that it helped to pressure myself to draw a lot of designs and not put too much effort into small, unnecessary details as the sketching part is used to brainstorm all my different ideas rather than creating a perfect rendered sketch.

At the end of the training, Hans gave us a task to take this image of a chair, and create different sketches and ideas like how we did before.
